International Fashion: 6 Runway Trends from Milan

The men's fashion weeks have just wrapped up in all the major cities. While designers from London to Paris showcased their burgeoning list of trends on the runways, Milan's sleek menswear styles gave us all a healthy dose of Italian sartorial flair once again. When it comes to what's trending, here is everything you need to know for AW19.

Leather outerwear

Variations of outerwear in utility styles and bold, masculine cuts appeared in most of the menswear collections across cities. Particularly in Milan, Fendi debuted a sleek, boxy leather jacket in dual-tones while Marcelo Burlon showed us a reimagined shiny leather suit jacket. Other variations of leather outerwear were also included in Biuu's, Prada's, Marni's and Dolce & Gabbana's collections.

Leopard prints

Minimalism seems to have been all but forgotten during the menswear shows at Milan. Designers like Versace, Marni, MSGM, Neil Barret, Marcelo Burlon and No 21 all debuted leopard prints in their collections. From coats and vests to even suit jackets, leopard prints take centre stage this Autumn/Winter.

Shiny suits

Suits with unabashed opulence and gilded glamour were another one of those themes that were hard to miss at Milan. Dolce & Gabbana sent out suits in multiple shiny jacquards in an array of colours while Versace debuted similar styles of shiny suits in understated tones like black and grey.

Bondage accessories

The fashion landscape and the press went gaga when Timothée Chalamet wore a harness on the Golden Globes red carpet. This season: both Versace and Emporio Armani sent models down the runway with bondage-like accessories. Who knew leather harnesses would be a thing?

Faux-fur, faux-fur

Thanks to an increased awareness of ethical and sustainability issues, many fashion powerhouses have pledged to stop using real fur. As a result, faux-fur gained tremendous popularity across the collections. At Emporio Armani, the use of long, yeti-like faux fur stood out amongst the many.

Puffer coats

If you thought puffer jackets were one of the best things, wait till you see this season's puffer coats. Ermenegildo Zegna gave us contemporary puffers in navy and brown while Fendi debuted some fun with printed puffers. Also spotted in DSquared2, Marni, Etro and Versace.
