Learning the art of sketching, illustrations, ideating, conceptualization and many other skills are a common knowledge when it comes to design studies. This journey becomes all the more exciting and innovative from the perspective of modern education offered by our famous design schools by bringing in the knowledge of the camera…It is not only about the “Light, Camera, Action” phenomenon that we have always associated with or imagined photography to be only for special events or exhibitions alone.
Parul Sharma is one such name that has had a varied experience with the lens, from the study of Arts to delve into the realm of black and white photography, she has mastered the art of capturing images inspired by life, society, fashion and design. In her Mentorship talks with the GSD students, she spoke enthusiastically about blending architectural designs, human forms and the spiritualties of urban landscapes in design programmes.
The new age photographer incorporates larger range of visuals like images of shadows, black and white contrasts, simple designs of staircases, intricate designs of ceilings, and phenomenal view of KUMBH. Not only is the understanding of the lens important, the equipment too plays a major role and how convenient to have something that fits in your pocket like an Iphone. Parul emphasizes the importance of composition in photography or design courses– a combination of formal underlying elements like line, balance, shape and authenticity in any creation. In her own words " Art speaks through itself. As its own language, it rarely needs the words we put to it, and words cannot capture the experience and the energy of a live work."
